Kevin B Lowe is a Professor of Management in the Graduate School of Management and the Fletcher Building Education Trust Chair in Leadership. Before joining the University of Auckland Business School, he was the Burlington Industries Research Excellence Professor and Professor of Management in the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Professor Lowe holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University. Professor Lowe’s research on cross-cultural management, leadership and international human resource management has appeared in a number of leading outlets including The Leadership Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Business Ethics and International Business Review. Professor Lowe’s research excellence has been recognised in several ways. He is a two-time recipient of the Best Paper Award from The Leadership Quarterly. In 2013 he received the Bryan School of Business Research Excellence Award. Kevin is currently on seven editorial boards including the The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies and the Journal of World Business. Professor Lowe is currently serving a three-year term as one of four Associate Editors of The Leadership Quarterly, a position he held twice between 1998 and 2003.
Professor Lowe was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Western Australia in 2002 and 2004. He was a Visiting Academic at the University of Southern Queensland in 2007. The same year, he was named as one of two Research Fellows in UNCG’s McDowell Center for Global Information Technology Management. In 2013 he was Chair of the International Leadership Association's (ILA) Leadership Scholarship Member Interest Group (MIG), the largest of the ILA MIG's with 900-plus members. He was the Southern Management Association (SMA) Treasurer from 2011-2013, and recently elected to the five year officer rotation at SMA which includes the office of President in 2016-2017.
Professor Lowe’s teaching excellence has also garnered recognition. In 2007 Professor Lowe received the Board of Governors Teaching Excellence Award recognising teaching excellence across the 16 campus University of North Carolina system and was nominated to the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for a US Professor of the Year Award. He was UNC Greensboro’s inaugural faculty fellow in leadership.
Professor Lowe has been actively involved with a number of organisations. His professional and research partners include ConocoPhillips, the Center for Creative Leadership, Wells Fargo Corporation, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, CD Earls and Associates, Cone Mills, Joe's Stone Crab, Lorillard, Motorola Corporation, Piedmont Triad Film Commission, Citibank, Premier Cruise Lines, Vencor and the World Bank-Philippines.
